Brooke Barnett has served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Butler University since April 2021. Her previous administrative roles include Dean of the College of Communication at Butler and serving for nine years on the President’s senior cabinet at Elon University as a presidential fellow and then Associate Provost for Academic and Inclusive Excellence.

Barnett earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication Studies at Georgetown College. She earned her Master of Arts in Journalism and doctorate in Mass Communication with a concentration in Law and Visual Communication at Indiana University–Bloomington.

Her monographs and co-written and co-edited books include Multidisciplinary Approaches to Communication Law Research (2006), Media Coverage of Crisis: The War on Terror and the Wars in Iraq (2005), The Press and Terrorism: An Uneasy Relationship (2009), An Introduction to Visual Theory and Practice in the Digital Age (2011), and Intersectionality in Action: A Guide for Faculty and Campus Leaders for Creating Inclusive Classrooms and Institutions (2016).

In addition to serving on the HERS board, Barnett is a faculty member at the HERS Leadership Institutes.
