SUNY Maritime College About SUNY Maritime College: SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Job Description: The State University of New York Maritime College is currently looking to employ officers and staff for this year’s winter training aboard T.S. EMPIRE STATE. The TS Empire State is looking for temporary personnel to provide class instruction, conduct various technical laboratories, supervise cadets in maintenance and repair activities, and to stand engine room watches. The ideal candidate must enjoy working with young people and passing on their experiences. It is possible the work assignments may change day to day throughout the Summer Sea Term appointment period. The Cruise dates begins January 5, 2024, and ends January 26, 2024. Requirements: Required Qualifications: • US Passport • Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) • Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) • Valid Medical Certificate – Note: The Medical Certificate is issued with the original MMC; however, it must be renewed every 2 years • Demonstrated ability in teaching applicable materials (for academic appointments) • Recent sea experience (for operational appointments) Note that Drug Testing in accordance with Title 46 CFR 16.210 will be conducted on the Pier Side. A COPY OF ALL THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION MUST BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Travel expenses may be reimbursed in accordance with the Travel Expense, Payment of Interview Policy but will be assessed on a case by case basis.
