COVID-19 Outbreak Preparedness by HERS
We know you are concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak, which is already impacting many of your campuses. We know because we’re concerned as well. That won’t stop us from pursuing our mission: advancing women leaders.
Please monitor this page periodically for 2020-2021 program delivery updates.
Update 07/19/2021:
Update for 2021-2022 HERS In-Person Programs
We are continuing to move forward with plans for in-person delivery of the 2021-2022 Weekend cohort of the HERS Leadership Institute in Boston, starting this November. If you are a registered participant of this cohort you should have received the instructions for confirming your lodging.
Additionally, we are planning for the January 2022 cohort of Next Stages Next Steps to be delivered in Denver over the course of three days. More information on this cohort will be shared in August 2021.
At this time, the only in-person programs planned for 2022 are the following:
For additional information on these offerings please visit their dedicated program pages or email [email protected] if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing you in person again for fall 2021 and throughout 2022!
Update 01/22/2021:
Update for 2021 Cohorts of the HERS Leadership Institute
Program Delivery Updates
We are looking forward to the year ahead and the opportunities we’re planning to stay connected as a community through a diverse series of HERS programs and events. We know many challenges and unknowns remain for 2021, but we would like to provide some certainty regarding the HERS Leadership Institute offerings this summer and fall. Below are two critical updates:
All HERS programs will remain online until November 1, 2021. After this data, we plan on resuming in-person delivery for residential cohorts of the HERS Leadership Institute and Next Stages Next Steps.
Update 7/31/2020:
HERS Leadership Institute 4 Weekend Format (2020-2021)
Dates: September 24 – 26, 2020, November 12 – 14, 2020, February 4 – 6, 2021, March 18 – 20, 2021.
Location: Virtual and Boston metro area (Wellesley & Natick, MA)
Program Delivery and Pricing Updates
September and November weekends will be delivered virtually to protect your health and adhere to social distancing guidelines outlined by the CDC. We have contingency plans in place for February and March to be delivered virtually as well if there is a surge in health concerns during those times.
Additionally, we have rolled back our annual program fee increase and lowered the price back down to $8499, from $8,999. This program fee will apply to in-person and virtual delivery format options for the 2020-2021 calendar year. The curriculum, learning outcomes, and quality of the experience will remain the same – it is just the mode of delivery that is different.
We delivered the HERS Leadership Institute virtually twice already, through our 12-day intensive offerings in June and July, and the feedback from both cohorts of women was incredibly positive. We’ll continue to build off of the highly successful online platform we developed over the summer to ensure the best experience.
Program Start-Date Deferral Requests: Our Extenuating circumstances policy in response to COVID-19
On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of coronavirus, known as COVID-19, to be a global pandemic. Since then, the outbreak has evolved rapidly with governments around the world taking swift action to slow the spread of COVID-19.
In response, we have put an extenuating circumstances policy in place for program refunds, withdrawals, and referrals. Our program offering delivery modes are shifting in response to recommendations by local and national health officials. As we make changes, we are in communication with those who have previously registered for a program offering to confirm their continued participation. If you have not heard from us, please email [email protected] and request an update to your program offering.
We will continue to monitor the evolving pandemic, and remain hopeful that we can be together (in-person) again in the spring of 2021. Your leadership advancement will always be our top focus.
Update 5/27/2020:
Next Stages, Next Steps in August 2020
Our 2020 August workshop will now be offered in an online format to provide participants with the necessary flexibility to take the next step in their career without having to disrupt their lives or worry about the risks of travel and group gatherings. The registration deadline is July 31, 2020.
HERS Leadership Institute 4 Weekend Format
To accommodate the uncertainties around fall schedules and tentative travel restrictions, we’ve made the first weekend a virtual session. The weekend dates for this offering are September 24 – 26, 2020, November 12 – 14, 2020, February 4 – 6, 2021, March 18 – 20, 2021. The application deadline for this offering has been extended to August 3, 2020.
We’re following the CDC Guidelines for Higher Education institutions as well as the Massachusetts State Government Guidelines to ensure the safety of participants in later weekends. We are also preparing virtual contingency plans for the delivery of the November 2020 weekend session if that is determined to be the safest option for our participants.
Update 3/25/2020:
Every decision we make starts with the health and well-being of our network. To that end, here are the adjustments we’re making to the HERS Leadership Institute summer programs, as well as the impact these changes will have on the experience of our participants:
Virtual Delivery of HERS Programs. Across the United States, public health authorities are advising that to slow the spread of this virus that we need to enact social distancing by reducing face-to-face interactions between people. We have therefore decided to deliver upcoming HERS programs virtually for programming scheduled through August 1, 2020. The HERS virtual program will be more than remote learning. It will be a HERS Leadership Institute experience that retains the components that our alumnae found most valuable.
Networking and community building are hallmarks of the HERS experience, and we are building these into our virtual learning experience. The leadership program you experience will include experiential and hands-on learning relevant to your current work and leadership aspirations.
Summer 2020 HERS Leadership Institute: If you are a member of the June 2020 or July 2020 HERS Leadership Institute cohort, we have two options as you decide how soon you will advance your leadership. We request a response by no later than Monday, April 6, 2020, to this survey. The payment deadline is now April 21, 2020.
Wellesley 2020-21 HERS Leadership Institute: If public health concerns have not subsided by September 2020, HERS will implement either a remote learning or virtual learning plan. Remote learning was used in March 2020 to finish out Wellesley 2019-20, and we plan on using virtual learning for our Summer 2020 programs. Regardless of the delivery method, you will have access to the same facilitators, peer mentoring, and support. We will ensure you have the ability to lead when we most need leaders like you.
Tomorrow is a new day, and we may need to make further adjustments. We will continue to prioritize our leadership programs to benefit your health and well-being. We are here to advance your leadership, knowing that tomorrow may be the day you take on a new role.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Update 3/13/20:
HERS continues to closely monitor the situation involving COVID-19. Your health and wellness are important to us, and we know that many of you are managing rapid change and uncertainty. We want you to know that HERS is here to support you. HERS continues to be engaged and dedicated toward advancing women leaders.
A top priority is the health and well-being of our HERS Leadership Institute summer participants. We are committed to delivering the HERS Leadership Institute in one of the following formats:
HERS will continue to re-evaluate and provide updates on the HLI as they become available. Please stay well at home, at work, and in your local communities.
Update 3/10/20:
For our Summer 2020 Participants
Your leadership advancement remains our focus, so we are also developing contingency plans for the delivery of our other programs in 2020, specifically our summer HERS Leadership Institute offerings. For those already registered as well as those interested in applying, we will deliver the Leadership Institute this summer, so keep the originally scheduled dates reserved on your calendar. We recommend waiting to make travel arrangements as the COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly.
We are monitoring the situation daily and will update you regularly via email and our website.
For more information on how to stay healthy and avoid contributing to the spread of the virus, do check out the resources available on the CDC’s website.
